Perkins wins 5th straight world championship

Coyote's diector of marketing, Matt Perkins won his fifth straight triathlon world chamionship on September 11th in Budapest, Hungary. Perkins cam out of the water in fifth position but was able to gain time on the bike and run, finally taking the lead with just over a kilometer left in the race. This was the first year that the ITU worlds were using the sprint distance, 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run. This change was made in am effort to get triathlon into the Paralympics. Previously the race was the Olympic distance, which is two times farther.

Coyote Co-Hosts first two day RCR Workshop with Knit-Rite

Coyote has changed the format of it's RCR Transtibial Socket Workshop to create a 2-Day version. This new format allows attendees to arrive on day one, and depart on day two. This minimizes the time away from the office for attendees, while maximizing the learning experience. The first workshop was co-hosted by Knit-Rite and received some tremendous feedback. The workshop took place at Coyote's new educational facility in Boise, Idaho. "By keeping the workshop in house we are able to offer the full benefit of the different systems, especially the fabrication." said Matt Perkins of Coyote.

Full House in Reno

Once again Coyote was on hand for the Hanger Education Fair in Reno, Nevada. During the tradeshow Coyote also presented the RCR workshop in front of a full house. This workshop marked the introduction of the new Suction Lock, new Molded Distal Cushions, and new Casting Handle. All products are available in April. The RCR socket method was again well received, and the new products and changes to the fabrication procedures also created excitement among the current Coyote customers.

RCR in Boise

In what is expected to become a regular occurrence, Coyote once again put on a RCR workshop in its home classroom. “The versatility for size and workshop format is what we really appreciate, not to mention the ability to comfortably show customers all our tips and tricks.” As the educational options for Coyote grow, so will the frequency for workshops in Boise. The area offers a great opportunity for credits and learning, as well as fun activities outside the classroom such as rafting, golfing, skiing, or catching a Boise State game on the blue turf.

Coyote Design Welcomes Dan Cox

Coyote design is excited to announce the growth of our company to include Dan Cox our National Account Manager. Dan brings many years industry experience both as a sales representative and as an amputee. An avid golfer Dan spends much of his time with the National Amputee Golf Association of which he is a trustee. He and his wife Pattie are based out of Wisconsin but Dan will be available to customers throughout the country.

Perkins Skips AOPA, Wins Fourth Title

For the first time since Coyote was created over ten years ago, Coyote’s director of Marketing missed the AOPA National Assembly. But it turned out to be for a pretty good reason. Perkins, the 2006, 2007, and 2008 triathlon world champion added to his win list by winning the World Championships for a fourth straight time. The race was held in Gold Coast Australia. The distance for travel and the desire to see some of the sights in Australia is what prevented Perkins from returning to Seattle for the national assembly. This also marked the last Paratriathlon Olympic Distance race (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run). The International Triathlon Union has decided to make the 2010 World championships a sprint distance race (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) in an effort to get Paratriathlon into the Paralympics. “I didn’t have the race I wanted, but it’s rare that I do, I just feel fortunate to come away with a win today, I think I got lucky. It was also nice to win the last Olympic distance race, now I just have to learn how to race the Sprint distance. It would be nice to win a 5th title, but I think it will be a long and tough spring and summer preparing for the sprint in 2010.”

RCR Heads Down Under

In conjunction with OPC, our distributor we put on a RCR workshop in Brisbane. The facility and the attendees were great and were as friendly as you would expect. The workshop went very well with our typical format that features a casting, modifying, and a fitting in the same day. We are looking forward to returning to Australia for more workshops.

Coyote Design introduces the Silicone Bowl

As we have taught the RCR workshops we have discovered a number of areas of the fabrication process that needed better, more efficient tools. The casting and modifying process is an area where great time savings is possible. To help avoid messes, and make cleanup easier we have introduced our Silicone bowl. The 12oz mixing bowl is easy to clean, durable and the wide base makes it easy to handle and prevents tip over's. It is ideal for jobs large and small.

Rafting and RCR

In conjunction with a raft trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, Coyote put on its first RCR workshop in its new facility. The facility offers a comfortable atmosphere and training facility for up to 25 practitioners. Coyote’s lab is connected to the classroom allowing for more comprehensive training on the technical sides of the RCR socket and Coyote’s products. “This really allows us to show how we use the socket design and the products and some of the efficiencies we have created that we might not be able to show on the road.”

Perkins in London for World Cup

In a move to help position triathlon as a Paralympics event for 2012 and 1016 the ITU put on a disabled triathlon world cup. The race, held on what will be the Olympic and Paralympics course for 2012 drew a number of the world’s top paratriathletes including Coyote’s director of marketing and reigning above the knee world champion Matt Perkins. The race, a super sprint distance, (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) is a shorter distance then Perkins typically races at World championships, however as part of the effort to get Paratriathlon into the Paralympics the ITU is shortening the distance for Paratriathlon from the Olympic to the Sprint distance. “It was exciting to race on the multi-loop course and to come through the finish area multiple times, it makes it much more fan friendly and exciting, I just have to figure out how to race this shorter distance. Even though it is less distance, it seems more difficult because it is absolutely all out” said Perkins after the race.

Perkins Wins First National Title

In his fourth attempt at the US Paratriathlon Nationals in New York City, Coyote’s director of marketing Matt Perkins finally won a national title. Perkins who has won the World championships in 06, 07, and 08, but in all three of those years had failed to win the national title until now. “I have not always come into the race in the best of shape, my focus is certainly on worlds, and I have not always had very good races, not to mention the fast racing my the guys around me. It is a tough course, and tough weather conditions. I was tired of always being a bridesmaid though and with the extra training I did for the Half Ironman back home I finally felt ready to race. I definitely had a time in my head that I wanted, but the hot weather always seems to interfere with my expectations, but I am extremely happy with the win. Finally.”

In an effort to maintain a high level of customer service, product quality, and on-time delivery, Coyote welcomes Jerrid Verhaege to manage quality control and inventory. Full Day Course to be offered at Hanger Ed Fair

Coyote Design recently received conἀrmation that they will be presenting a full day workshop on Thursday, February 5th at the 2009 Hanger Education Fair in Reno, Nevada. This workshop will include a live patient casting for the RCR transtibial socket, as well as modiἀcation and ἀtting instructions. The workshop also includes the ἀt and fabrication of our suction pin system, suction socket system, and our zero clearance proximal suspension system. New Suspension Sleeve

Not everyone can use a lock. At Coyote Design we have been working on a number of items for those patients who wear suction sockets. Our Integrator™ Socket Adaptor uses the same fast and efἀcient fabrication technique as the Air-Lock to create a suction socket. We also have a pair of new expulsion valves, designed for easy installation and quiet operation. Lastly we have added a new suspension sleeve. Made of a revolutionarily thin material that remains airtight, the new Coyote® Suspension Sleeve is the thinnest, lightest weight sleeve on the market. It can also be washed and repaired. This sleeve is ideal for compliant patients who need a little extra movement and comfort from their suspension sleeve.

Marketing Director Wins 3rd Straight World Championship

VANCOUVER, B.C.—Due to unseasonably cold temperatures, the swim portion of the 2008 ITU Triathlon World Championships on June 8th was shortened from 1500 meters to 1100 meters. The bike and run courses were not altered and featured a 24.6 mile bike ride, followed by a 6.2 mile run. As in previous victories, Coyote Design’s director of marketing, and above the knee amputee, Matt Perkins came from behind to win the race after coming out of the water in third place. He took the overall lead on the bike, then extended his lead all the way to the ἀnish for his third straight world championship. Perkins was born with PFFD, and later underwent a Symes amputation. He was not interested in running or triathlon until the end of his ski racing career when he needed to add some endurance to his training. After retiring from ski racing he started using triathlon to stay in shape (apparently tradeshow food was catching up to him). After a couple of years he discovered he could compete at the highest level in the sport, and the rest is history. Perkins will be trying for his 4th straight championship next fall in Australia.

Perkins Hits Two Holes in One In Same Round

For years Coyote Design’s President, Peggy Perkins was the only family member to hit a hole-in-one. After years of trying, Dale Perkins, Coyote’s Director of Research hit his ἀrst hole-in-one on the 135 yard par three 9th hole at Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls, Idaho. Dale continued his round and at the 175 yard, par three 17th hole hit his second hole-in-one of the day. The odds of hitting two holes in one on the same round are 67 million to 1. Recently Dale competed in the US Amputee National Championships and the College Park Cup (the amputee version of the Ryder Cup) where Team USA squared off against the best golfers from around the world in a match play tournament.
